ARTRA MEETING 21.01.19

NEWS Emma Dawson (TDC) is now trying to set up a waste management pilot scheme, however it was remarked by members is that what we really need for Athelstan Road, and comments were made that this wouldn't really work. It was also expressed that bins were key to this issue as there were not enough bins per building as there are more flats than bins in nearly all properties. ABC (A Better Cliftonville) waste management meeting - Mark Thorne (TDC) has reported about what he has done, notices and sections being handed out to problem buildings, tenants. Max Hendy asked to be our representative for Athelstan Road to help with this issue.

It was remarked that one of the key problems with waste on Athelstan Road was down to the recycling team not running on this road, however this was remarked that you have to Opt into this scheme with Thanet council in order to have recycled waste picked up on the designated days. Barry also made a suggestion that locks could be used to bins to ensure only the correct residents use the bins allocated for their property.

It was mentioned that the Council has been contacted again about the problem of rubbish and fly tipping in the alleyway between Athelstan and Ethelbert Road as it wasn't being cleaned regularly enough. Barry Lewis remarked that fly tipping was being voted against, as the council has said that they do not necessarily have responsibility to non-household waste. Barry continued further to point out that this could become worse in Kent as a whole due to this attitude towards certain types of waste and their responsibilities therein.
